Check-in & Baggage at Frankfurt Airport
So your departure from Frankfurt starts stress-free, it helps to know the airport layout. FRA is large – but with the right terminal and a little extra time, check-in goes smoothly. Here is the most important information at a glance.
The Terminals at a Glance
- Terminal 1 (A / B / C / Z): Home of Lufthansa, its subsidiaries and Star Alliance partners. Hall Z is located above Hall B.
- Terminal 3: the new terminal in the south of the airport (since April 2026) – many international airlines fly from here, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Cathay Pacific and Korean Air, as well as leisure carriers such as TUI fly, Pegasus and easyJet. Important: the major leisure carriers Condor, Discover Airlines and SunExpress continue to depart from Terminal 1.
- Terminal 2: closed for passenger operations since June 2026 and under renovation – the former airlines have moved to Terminal 3. Always check your terminal on your current ticket.
Between the Terminals: the SkyLine
The free elevated railway SkyLine connects the terminals within the security area and runs every few minutes. Between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 you should allow around 8 to 10 minutes of travel time – important if you are connecting or need to change terminals.
Check-in & Baggage – How to Ensure a Smooth Departure
- Check in advance which terminal your airline departs from – this is stated on your ticket or boarding pass.
- Use online check-in where possible and drop off your luggage at the baggage drop counters.
- Observe your airline’s checked baggage and hand luggage rules – these vary depending on the fare.
- For long-haul flights, arrive early enough: during the holiday season, a buffer of two to three hours before departure is worthwhile.
